Collaboration model designed by Jun Sugimae a.k.a. JunAle, a freestyle Sashiko artist. These slip-ons are a modern sublimation of the traditional Japanese techniques of “sashiko” and “rag” stitchwork. The material is kangaroo leather, which boasts outstanding softness, providing long-lasting comfort and a comfortable hold. Please experience the supreme comfort created by the fusion of tradition and innovation.

A slip-on with sashiko stitching, by artist JunAle.
The SP-1044 carries the work of freestyle sashiko artist JunAle (Jun Sugimae), who reworks the stitching of Japan's sashiko and boro traditions into something you can wear now. A shallow wave sole keeps the shape clean and easy with everyday clothes. The stitch detail is what people notice.
Soft underfoot, easy on a long day.
Soft kangaroo leather and a springy latex sponge footbed wrap the foot, so it stays comfortable on a long walk. The shallow wave sole keeps things light. A padded collar means less rubbing on a full day out.
Handwork carried forward, in JunAle's words.
JunAle (Jun Sugimae) puts it this way: the old boro and sashiko handwork came out of the life people lived then. He does not want to copy it. He wants to carry the thinking forward into now. Every stitch and material choice holds that intent, so the shoe becomes a way to pass the value of handwork to the next person who sees it.
The wave sole: made to last, made to repair.
Spingle's wave sole cushions, holds up, and flexes, and it can be repaired. A serious pair you'll still reach for every day. We keep building it by hand at our Fuchu factory in Hiroshima, which is why it stays with you for years.
