Features leather dyed piece by piece using the hand-printing (te-nassen) technique by artisans, a modern arrangement of traditional Kyoto Yuzen techniques. The Japanese-modern striped pattern is expressed through the uneven texture created by a salt-shrinking process. Vibrantly colored laces provide a refreshing impression. Finished as a pair with a natural yet deep charm.

Japan Beauty is our series that brings traditional Japanese materials and handwork into a modern sneaker. Artisan dyeing, Japanese motifs, the texture of the material drawn out by hand. It works with everyday clothes and still stands out. You feel the craft each time you put it on.
Hand block-printing, one color at a time.
Tenassen is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique. An artisan uses stencils to lay color onto the leather one shade at a time. The gradations come out differently each time, which is the point. The depth in the color is something a machine cannot copy, and it shows more the longer you wear it.
Built by hand in Fuchu City, better with wear.
Every pair is made one at a time at our factory in Fuchu City, Hiroshima. We have built shoes here since 1933, adjusting the last (the wooden form that shapes the shoe) and the pattern again and again to fit the Japanese foot. Our craftsmen cut the leather and finish each pair by hand. That is where the quality comes from.
The wave sole: made to last, made to repair.
Spingle's wave sole cushions, holds up, and flexes, and it can be repaired. A serious pair you'll still reach for every day. We keep building it by hand at our Fuchu factory, which is why it stays with you for years.
