The sustainable model "SPM-180" uses ECCO LEATHER's DriTan.
What is ECCO LEATHER's DriTan?
The leather used for the upper is tanned using ECCO LEATHER's DriTan technology. "How can the leather industry tan leather without using water, given the water shortage issues facing the world? Is this even possible?" This question prompted ECCO LEATHER to begin developing DriTan technology.
Normally, a large amount of water is required to tan leather, but this DriTan technology uses the moisture that is naturally contained in the raw hides. By not requiring a large amount of water, we have succeeded in minimizing the amount of wastewater and chemicals used. As shown in the video above, we have been able to save about 20 liters of water per piece of leather, or about 25 million liters per year, which is equivalent to saving the annual water consumption of 9,000 people.
Furthermore, leather made with DriTan technology is in no way inferior to leather made using traditional processes in terms of quality, texture, durability and manufacturing time.
Uses environmentally friendly materials throughout, including plant-based outsoles and Oeko-Tex certified shoelaces
The outsole is made of natural crepe, which is also used in other Spingle products. It is made from natural rubber and is a plant-derived outsole made from the sap extracted from rubber trees.
In addition, the lining is made from "COOL MAXIM", which is made from approximately 55% recycled materials, and the shoelaces are made from yarn that has been approved by "Oeko-Tex®", a world-class certification for safe textile products.
